Jewellery Care
With the proper care, Ornate Alchemy Jewellery is designed to last - for a lifetime or more. The following information is basic advice to help keep your jewellery in great condition. please look at my blog for more specific information around jewellery care.
-
Jewellery should be removed before washing, bathing, showering and swimming. This is particularly important if your jewellery has a stone or crystal as water can cause irreparable damage to porous stones.
Chemicals that are added to water (such as chlorine) can impact your jewellery, degrading the metals over time.
-
Avoid applying perfume, hairspray and other beauty products near your jewellery. When getting ready always put your jewellery on last.
Similarly care should be taken with household cleaning products such as bleach.
Never use cleaning products on your jewellery.
-
To avoid unnecessary damage, jewellery should be removed prior to physical or strenuous activities such as exercise, sports, gardening or using heavy machinery.
Sweat can have a negative impact your jewellery.
Jewellery should also be removed whilst sleeping.
-
Silver will discolour and start to tarnish when exposed to light, humidity and gasses in the air. Whilst easily removed with a polishing cloth it is best to avoid tarnish occurring by storing your unworn jewellery in a box.
Some crystals and stones can fade or discolour when exposed to direct sunlight. If you intend to use your talisman for metaphysical purposes you should take care to research suitable cleansing methods for your particular crystal.
-
Whilst the metals that make your jewellery are fairly robust, crystals and stones are more delicate. Dropping or physically knocking your jewellery against a hard surface can permanently destroy your crystal - especially crystal talismans where a large part of the stone is exposed.
Please take care - once a stone is cracked or broken it cannot be repaired.
Cleaning your Jewellery
Precious Metals
All silver and gold jewellery comes with a small polishing cloth in the box. Simply rub this gently over your jewellery to make it shiny again.
A patina has been applied to silver jewellery to darken recessed areas. Be aware that excess cleaning here will remove this effect.
Stainless Steel
Steel requires very little care as it is a durable metal. If it gets dull, buffing it with a soft cloth is all it needs to bring out the shine.
A dry toothbrush is effective at cleaning any hard to reach areas.
