The iconography of a dove mid-flight has appeared throughout history with origins in religion, particularly early Christianity. Although the symbol is attributed a range of meanings in different cultures around the world, there is a universal recognition that a dove represents gentle qualities such as innocence, purity, hope and love. In modern times the image of the dove with outstretched wings is recognised worldwide as a symbol for peace, as made famous by Pablo Picasso.
I selected howlite for this talisman to continue the theme of peace. Often referred to as the ‘stone of harmony’, howlite is used for its ability to bring inner peace to the wearer. It is purported to be a calming stone, one that is used in crystal healing for soothing the mind, body and spirit. An excellent choice for busy minds, hot tempers and learning patience.
This talisman can be worn either way - it has a motif of a flying dove on one side and the alchemical symbol for ‘air’ on the other. The element of air is connected to both the dove and the stone - howlite is often linked with the element because of its reputation of clearing out mental clutter, much like a strong breeze.
Please note the howlite stone isn’t perfectly smooth on the bottom edge. This in no way detracts from the piece, it just isn’t apparent in the photographs.
Dimensions: Length 3.5 cm approx.
